It's been a long, lonely, bored-out-of-my-mind spring festival! I miss spending Chinese New Year back in Sg! There is all that fun in partying and not to mention the amount of money that I am losing in terms of hongbaos!!~
We started work yesterday and it was pathetic! There were all five of us working and there was probaly only like ten students in the whole school?! One of the teachers did an English corner and she only had four students!~
OKiee...a little background history of my work in China! I am teaching ESL in a commercial school in Ningbo, China.
Where is Ningbo? Ningbo is near Shanghai...about four hours away by bus. Almost like Singapore and KL? Anyway, Ningbo is great. It's not too huge and not too small. There aren't that many people to make the place feels overcrowded...unless there is a huge sale of course!..yet Ningbo is developed enough that we even have STARBUCKS!~ I am not kidding..now I judge the level of development of a place accordingly to the kind of fast food amentities available!~So far NIngbo is alright...here is the count: Two Mc Donalds, a dozen KFC, Two Starbucks and even A SUBWAY!~
What is ESL? Basically I am a teacher but I only teaches the English Language. Mostly conversation English at different levels to young and old Adults!~ It may sound hard but trust me...its not that hard to teach English!~ Most of the lessons are prepared and I just have to go into class and go through the lesson plans with the students. Besides I only teaches around 5 hours in a day. In comparison to SG, I think my workload is much more relaxed. Its just that I also plan many different activities and programs which takes up most of my time. In fact, I will be doing an activitie for Valentine's day!~ Cool eh? I decided to hold a Bachelor Auction!~ Three of my foreign friends...one from NZ, one from Canada and one from England will be auctioned off to the chinese students with the highest bid! They will then be able to spent one night having dinner with a foreigner hunk!
I am really glad that school have started. I had so much free time for the last two weeks that it was slowly driving me insane! (though I know some would say that it doesn't take much to drive me crazy??) I spent my days watching Dvds...reading novels and my nights getting pissed..as in fall-flat-on-my-face-pissed-drunk!~ It was bad... I binge from tues till fri and on fri my body couldn't take it anymore. I came home at two in the morning on friday and didnt stop puking till six in the morning!~ It was bad.. took me the whole of sat to feel like a human being again! Sigh...getting much much older! I remember the glorious days where I could drink ten shots and chase them with ten cocktails and still walk a shaky but reasaonably straight line!
